Dr. Otto Placik sees many patients from out of town and out of the country, including labiaplasty patients. There are a variety of reasons why people travel long distances for plastic surgery and as long as it is well planned out it can be a truly positive experience. The initial evaluation and screening are done prior to visiting our Chicago or Arlington Heights office. This consists of Dr. Placik reviewing your medical history, photographs, along with you communicating with our staff and patient coordinator. Once this has been fully completed, Dr. Placik will then consider and hopefully approve making the trip to our office.
Over the years, Dr. Placik has developed an approach that best meets the needs of patients flying in from out of town. Following your initial inquiry, our patient coordinator will contact you and provide all the information needed, plus answer any questions (via phone or email) to make certain that you are well-informed about the labiaplasty or any other procedure that you are interested in.
Once you’ve decided to have Dr. Placik perform your surgery, our Patient Coordinator will send you all the pre-operative instructions, paperwork and consents neeede for surgery. You’ll need to complete this paperwork and do all the required lab work depending on specifics of your health history, including habits such as smoking and use of medications. The lab results need to be in our office at least four weeks prior to the date of your surgery. By having the results four weeks prior, it will allow our nursing and anesthesia team to review them, ensuring that you are medically ready to undergo surgery.
If you’d like our Patient Coordinator can also assist you in arranging lodging accommodations, nursing care and transportation (to and from the airport and/or hotel). Just let us know what we can do to assist you and we will do everything in our power to accommodate your needs.
Dr. Placik asks his patients to arrive in the Chicago area at least one to two days before their surgery. Arriving two days early allows Dr. Placik to examine you and prepare you for surgery. Thisis a perfect time to ask Dr. Placik any additional questions you may have and review the pre-operative instructions given to you.
On the day of your surgery, you will be in the hands of Dr. Placik and his highly experienced surgical team. Following the surgery, patients will require help for the first 24 hours. That being said, it is important that all patients either have a companion at discharge or we can connect you with a Manor Care facility or private-duty nursing. If you’re traveling by yourself, we can make arrangements for your transportation to a Manor Care facility where you will receive care around the clock.
Another option available to patients traveling alone is to have a nurse take you back to your hotel. A private-duty nurse will care for you until returning for your post-operative check up. (The length that we will ask you to stay will depend on which procedure(s) you are having done.)
Dr. Placik and his staff’s goal is to get patients home as soon as they can, but sometimes this leads to logistical hurdles.
Depending on which procedure(s) performed we either see our patients in follow-up on the first, second or third day . Fortunately complications of labiaplasty are uncommon, although the incidence of complications is low surgery does involve risks and there is a possibility that you could require medical care on an emergency basis after returning home. To be safe, you should make arrangements for this possibility or be prepared to call 911.
Of course all patients are welcomed to return for a follow-up at 1-3 months and yearly, but we understand that the reality of travel over great distance means this is seldom done. Even though you might not come in for an appointment, Dr.Placik will like to see interval photos at 3 months and 12 months. If there is any concern following surgery you will either need to come back to see Dr. Placik at one of our Chicago area offices or he will suggest going to an immediate care facility.
Once you get home, we will definitely want to know how you’re doing. We strongly encourage you to keep in contact with our office and update us every so often with your progress. Please, as we would ask any of our patients, if questions or needs arise call and/or email us anytime. In addition, we ask that you periodically send photos (via mail or email) to allow Dr. Placik to visually see your progress.
We know that out of town patient travel great distances to see us, so Dr. Placik and his staff invest a lot of time and energy to accomdate all their needs. Since we spend so much time communicating with out of town patients prior to their arrival they tend to leave a lasting impression on our office.
We are 100% committed to making this journey as easy and relaxing as possible for any of our out-of-town patients.
